About Our Inspiring Speakers


Katherine Ford, MSc, Registered Dietitian with PradoLab

Katherine is a PhD student in Dr. Carla Prado’s Lab, which studies the importance of nutrition to cancer survivorship. She obtained both her Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition and her Dietetic Internship from the University of Prince Edward Island. Katherine then worked as a Registered Dietitian in clinical and community nutrition before pursuing her Master of Science degree at the University of Saskatchewan.

Throughout her undergraduate- and graduate-level research, Katherine has been successful in obtaining many scholarships and awards for her academic excellence and leadership. She has presented her work at academic conferences, published her findings, and enjoys guest lecturing on various nutrition-related topics. She has a passion for teaching and mentoring aspiring health care professionals. Katherine’s research interests include nutritional assessment and body composition in adults with chronic disease.



Sundas Shamshad, Former Guest of Sorrentino’s Compassion House & Compassion House Foundation Board Member

Sundas Shamshad was diagnosed with breast Cancer HER2 positive on Oct 10, 2017. She went through 3 surgeries, 6 rounds of chemotherapy, and 17 rounds of Herceptin. She lives in a small but mighty city, Fort McMurray. She has obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Toronto. She works for the Government of Alberta and is active in her community, volunteering whenever she can.

One of her most cherished accomplishments is setting up a local support group for cancer patients and survivors in her city named Sisters in Cancer YMM. This project is very close to her heart, as she was involved in every step of development, promotion, and hosting.
